Hobby Lobby Fall Decor 2019- A Mood Board of My Favorites! Plus all under $30!

So, a few weeks ago I shared some of my favorites from Kirkland’s fall collection. I thought this week I’d switch it up and share all of the some of the stuff I’m loving from Hobby Lobby!

This store is so overwhelming to me. I cannot be alone in this. I have all these ideas for what I’m looking for and so I load up in the car and drive to Hobby Lobby. I park the car, walk through those two sets of doors, grab my little blue cart, and completely lose all rational thought.

Maybe it’s the overwhelm of so many beautiful things that causes my mind to start going in a million directions? Most likely. It’s probably a lot like the saying “a kid in a toy store”, except there are no more brick and mortar toy stores. And so kids don’t know what that feels like anymore. I guess we’ll have to change the saying to “a kid in the toy section at Target.” Or maybe that saying was “a kid in a candy store”?

Anyhoo, I digress. Back to the matter at hand. Focus, Lauren.

The moral of this story is, I can’t just walk into Hobby Lobby without a game plan. I have to have a strict list in my mind of what I need in my house at the time and what I need to purchase to accomplish it. No veering off course or getting distracted.

And that’s also why I love these mood boards. I get to “browse the aisles” in the comfort of my own home and put them together to see if I like the way they look. And instead of coming home with things that didn’t work and then subsequently have to be returned, I can just find something else to replace it with from my couch.

Then, I can actually go to the store knowing exactly what I want or need which simplifies things so much. Or, I can just order online. Either way it makes life easier.

Hobby Lobby Fall 2019 Wish List

Here’s what spoke to me the most. It all looks cozy, comfy, farmhouse-y. It embodies what I love most about fall. Wanting to snuggle up by the fire and read a book. The smell of a pumpkin scented candle. A pot of chili simmering on the stove.

And, just the time of year where we all slow down a little. Think about all the blessings in our lives that we are so truly thankful for.

The Wednesday Wish List- Things That Have Inspired Me

It’s that time of the week again! And even better, since tomorrow is July 4th, this Wednesday is like a Friday!! Double yay! I really hate that word, btw. It may not seem like it because I think I may use it all the time. But really, what word can you even substitute for that? Deep thoughts here.

My Wednesday Wish List is going to be all over the place today. Inspiration has hit me big time this week and I want to share all the things that have influenced me.

If you’re not familiar with the Wednesday Wish List, you can check out some previous week’s here and here.

1.) Take a break!!

For those of you who read my post yesterday, you know that Jeremy and I had a little mini getaway for the weekend. It astonished me just how big of a difference that weekend made for me. I knew it would be good for me. I knew I needed it. Everything I read said to do it.

But evidently I didn’t know how much I needed it.

All those people that say how important it is? They’re right! I came back renewed and refreshed and ready to take on life. It’s not like it changed me or anything profound like that. But imagine it this way. If life were measured by an enthusiasm scale from 1 to 10, mine before this weekend was hovering around a 3 or 4, probably. Now, I’m not saying my life was terrible or that I was depressed or anything like that. I just mean it felt like life had become so mundane, such a routine. I was like a machine going through the motions.

The Wednesday Wish List

Hey guys! Welcome back to the Wednesday Wish List. Here’s where you’ll find all the things my family and I have been digging lately. And, also things we have our eye(s) set on. (Even though this week’s wish list is compiled of stuff we already own.) And we do it on Wednesday, because, why not? It’s my favorite way to celebrate hump day!

1.) Kohls’ Quilt

You’ve probably already seen a pic of this quilt that’s located on our bed in our master bedroom. Excuse the blurry, terrible picture. (It’s the Madison Park brand from Kohl’s.) When I was planning out my room, I knew I wanted some kind of muted, soft, neutral bedding. A blank slate I could change up with the mood strikes. Because, the mood strikes. A lot.

My eye had been set on this Safavieh rug for years. (You can see a pic below). I absolutely loved the color palette and pattern of it. Afraid I may grow tired of the busyness of it, I drug my feet making the purchase. But, eventually, I did pull the plug and buy it. And, I’m sooo glad I did. I just love it. It literally makes me smile every time I see it. (I know, I’m weird. Jeremy’s always reminding me of that.) And although the pattern is busier than I’m used to, the soft blues and grays and creams in it, are colors I’ve loved for years. So, I feel confident that I’ll love it for many more years to come.

The key to making a busy rug, or anything that’s bold, work in a room is to complement it with coordinating monochromatic pieces. So, enter the white bedspread. Going white was a bold mood with two kids and a cat, but I was feeling brave. I knew I wanted to find something relatively inexpensive and easy to wash. You know, so I wouldn’t cry when I discovered my kids’ Sharpie artwork or when my daughter decided to paint her nails on my bed.

This quilt from Kohls’ fit the bill to a T. My daughter still sleeps with us and has the occasional accident every now and again. This quilt has held up beautifully to our top loader washer (with agitator) and has handled daily abuse like a champ. The thickness of it is perfect for summer months, although I have to say in the winter it isn’t quite warm enough. I probably will add a fluffy duvet cover at the foot of the bed for those chillier months.

2.) The Magnolia Home Cookbook

Next on the list is this book I received as one of my Mother’s Day presents this year. And, just like anything Joanna Gaines touches, it’s magic. It’s this beautifully bound book and I couldn’t help but read it cover to cover when I finally had a chance. While it’s not made up of the healthiest fare, it’s just the type of homey, comfort food that makes me want to whip up a home cooked meal for my family. Because to me, food is so much more than just nourishment. Although, judging by the way my pants have been fitting lately, maybe I should change my stance on that. Ha!

But, I firmly believe food gives joy, a sense of belonging, a sense of who you are and where you come from. And, that’s a legacy I want my own children to inherit. I don’t want to be such a busy mom that I forget how to provide that kind of nourishment for my kids’ souls. I would love nothing more than to see certain traditions around food that I’ve created for my kids be carried out once they reach adulthood and start their own families. I’m a sucker for traditions.

So far, I’ve only tried one dish, the sour cream chicken enchiladas. And it was delish. I have a fondness for this dish because it reminds me of the sour cream enchiladas supremas I used to get at Chi-chi’s as a kid. Anyone else know my pain? The restaurant chain declared bankruptcy and I have been missing this meal ever since! I mean, think about it, I was probably 10 or 11 the last time I had it. And, I still think about it! I don’t know if that proves my point or makes me look like a loser. Ha ha, probably a mix of both.

Nevertheless, I have a feeling this meal (and cookbook) will become a staple in my home! I’ve only got about a few other thousand things flagged that I want to try.

3.) Kids Poncho Style Beach Towels

Image from Sam’s Club.

Next on the wish list, are these poncho beach towels for kids from Sam’s Club. I just adore that store and fortunately, for my bank account, don’t get to go that often! Sam’s literally has everything! Not just fresh, bulk meat and a great deli, but also offers a seasonal section that’s loaded with things I can’t pass up. It’s also where I stock up on bulk paper towels, toilet paper, trash bags, and dish detergent. And diapers. Always buying diapers.

I think I actually found these online when I was shopping for a hooded towel for my kids. When I saw this poncho option, I thought it would be a perfect way to provide my kids with a hands free way to keep their towel on them while taking a snack break after swimming. And, they definitely serve this purpose. My kids love them and I don’t have to keep putting their towels on them. Win win.

They also have these kid’s beach towels, and if they’re anything like the adult ones I own, they will be the plushest, coziest beach towel you’ve ever owned!

4.) John Deere Sit and Scoot Tractor

Now, if I were to ask my adorable, favorite son what he was digging (he’s almost 2), he would without a doubt tell you this little ride on tractor that my MIL got him for his first Christmas. It’s not battery operated or anything like that, he literally just sits down on it and scoots it with his feet.

But, he absolutely adores it. It’s the first thing he plays with in the morning and the first thing he plays with when he comes home from the babysitter. And, he rides this thing for hours, you all. Jeremy and I joke that we wished it had a way to calculate the miles that this boy has put on it. If I had to pick just one toy for my son to keep, it would be this one. Hands down.

5.) Ikea curtains

My very favorite thing that Ikea offers, and I have lots of favorites, is their curtains. I don’t think you can get more bang for your buck, better quality, or a better bargain than what you can find here.

Vivan panels (in our first house)

I had a pair of these Ikea Vivan curtain panels in the living room at our old house and I loved them. The dimensions on them are 57″ x 98.5″. That means the length of them are 98.5″ long! To understand why that’s so remarkable, let’s say you go to Target to purchase curtains. Their standard length is 84″.

That’s barely long enough to hang right above the window frame. And, if you’ve ever experimented with hanging your curtains high and wide, you’ll never go back to hanging right above the window again. It adds such height and drama to your room. If you want to add a drastic transformation to your space without spending a lot of money, just change how you hang your curtains. Your mind will be blown.

And, to top it all off, this pair of curtains is only $14.99! These curtains are kind of on the sheer side, which was the look I was going for in our first house due to lack of windows, so they let plenty of light spill in. But, if you’re wanting something that adds a bit more privacy, Ikea offers other models as well.

We now have the Ritva model in our current house.

In our master bedroom in our current house, I purchased these curtains from Ikea. They are the Ritva model and sell for $29.99 a pair. They also come in longer lengths as well. That means for $15 a curtain panel, you can have amazing custom looking drapes in your space. And these do look amazing when hanging. They have a nice weight to them and look like they cost a heck of a lot more than they did.

One important thing to keep in mind with Ikea curtains is due to the custom length, you probably will have to end up hemming them. Make sure to wash them and dry them on high heat first because they will shrink. I’ve not had any problems with them shrinking after the first inital wash and dry. But, you could always err on the side of caution and line dry them.

And, if you’re just a little Martha Stewart, go ahead and whip your sewing machine out and knock ’em out. I, ahem, however, am not. I do own a sewing machine but have no idea how to use it, so I’m not sure if that counts. Probably not.

So, I followed Young House Love’s tutorial on how to apply an iron on hem with a special hemming tape. You can find that here.

And did I mention how much I love Young House Love? Their blog was the original blog I found way back about 2009 and I’ve been following them faithfully ever since. They’ve fixed up 3 different homes and documented it all on their blog. In fact, they are what inspired me to start my own. I’ve been dreaming of it for years and living vicariously through them. So, if you’ve never heard of them, check them out! You won’t be disappointed.

But, even with that extra step, you just can’t beat the quality and price of Ikea curtains! I’m getting ready to replace the curtains in my living room with these same curtains because I evidently didn’t learn my lesson and tried to use convenient Target curtains. And, it’s just not working. *Insert faceslap. I’m sure you’ll be seeing a future post on some new Ikea curtains for the living room. I just hope Jeremy doesn’t read this post!!!

So, there you have it. This week’s roundup. Let me know if you’ve ever tried the curtain trick and what you think of it! Or, let me know what you’ve been digging this week! Have a good rest of the week!
