Jeremy and I just got back from our first ever weekend “getaway” without the kids to celebrate our 10 year anniversary! We were supposed to be going back to the Bahamas which is where we spent our honeymoon. In fact, Jeremy promised me when we were leaving (I kind of threatened to not go to the airport), that we would come back on our 10 year anniversary.
Well, life happened and things didn’t quite turn out that way. Honestly, I think our weekend away in Louisville was just as much fun as a Bahamas trip would have been. We learned that A.) the world doesn’t keep spinning when we’re away from our kids and that B.) maybe even our kids needed that break from us for a few days. Whoa *Mic drop.*
(And a huge thank you to our family who watched our kids for us so that this weekend could happen!!! It takes a village to raise these kids and we are so very, very thankful for every one of you.)
A Recap of our trip
But whatever the case may be, we had a fabulous time.
And, a fabulous time for us when we have the time to rest and enjoy some downtime is to hit up 7 different flea markets, 5 of those in 8 hours! But I’m pretty sure we are now officially professional thrift store connoisseurs and we can tell you the best thrift stores in Louisville to visit if you’re ever in the area!
I know. We’re crazy.
We did splurge and stay at the Seelbach for two nights, though. Kind of a throwback to our honeymoon since we spent the first night there back in 2009 while we were waiting to board our plane. So we had a weekend of all our favorite things… shopping, sleeping without a 4 year old foot in my face, and eating! Lots of eating!
My favorite place we ate at is called Brazeiros. It’s a Brazilian steakhouse with basically the best salad I’ve ever eaten. The waiters just keep coming around with different types of meat for you to try. It was such a refreshing experience and we’ve decided we have to eat there every year for our anniversary now.
And the shopping! Who would have thought this girl that used to hate when Jeremy wanted to go to a Peddler’s Mall would now jump at the chance. And actually choose to do that for fun. For our anniversary. With no kids! It’s absolutely mind blowing. No lie, I get just as excited pulling into a Peddler’s Mall parking lot as I used to pulling into Target. The 2007 Lauren would think this 2019 Lauren was so lame.
My Tips for How to Shop that many thrift stores in one day.
So you better believe I have a ton of treasures to share with you guys! For any of you who frequent thrift shops or flea markets, you know how hard it is to keep your focus when visiting that many places. You forget what you bought already, what you need, and can completely lose your creative vision on ways to transform an old, ugly piece.
My advice for hitting up that many places in a short time is to stop at the really old booths. One that looks like this, for example.
Which led me to find this! (Hint- The older and dirtier and more cluttered the better!)
I’m not sure if you can read the writing on that barrel but those galvanized metal hoops are $1.50 each. My mind immediately went to how I could use those. I thought about making one of those embroidery hoop wreaths out of it by spray painting it a rich bronze and attaching some greenery or flowers at the bottom.
Or possibly attaching a backing to it and making it into some sort of farmhouse shelf. I’m still not sure what direction I’ll take with it. But, for $1.50 you can make a unique, one of a kind custom farmhouse decoration for your house. And that very reason is why I’m addicted to flea market shopping!
Our List of the Best Peddler’s Malls in Louisville.
Jeremy and I had both planned out what places we wanted to visit. Mine were more flea market/ antique type stores. Jeremy’s list was mostly compiled of peddler’s malls. I’m not even sure if we even made it to any of the places on my list, honestly. Mostly because they were all located on the opposite end of town from where we started. Maybe because we ran out of room in the car. Maybe, also, because my feet hurt.
Nevertheless, I’ve compiled a list of the best peddler’s malls in Louisville to shop at in case you live near here or are ever in the area! These are all the places we went to this past weekend.
Here is a list of all the places we visited!
- 1) Hillview Peddler’s Mall– this one was my favorite of all the ones we visited.
WeI probably spent the most money here. Here’s the address: 11310 Preston Hwy, Louisville, KY 40229
- 2) South Louisville Antique and Toy Mall– this one was Jeremy’s fav. As an avid toy collector, the reason why is pretty obvious. And, I managed to find a few gems too! Just a word of warning, you’ll feel like you must have gotten the directions wrong when you venture out this way. Trust me, you didn’t! 4150-8 E Blue Lick Rd, Louisville, KY 40229
- 3) New Cut Peddler’s Mall 191 Outer Loop Louisville KY 40214
- 4) Middletown Peddler’s Mall 12405 Shelbyville Road
Louisville, KY 40243
- 5) Clarksville Peddler’s Mall– Ok, this one technically isn’t in Louisville. But, it’s just over the bridge! 1416 Blackiston Mill Rd, Clarksville, IN 47129
- 6) Vendor’s Village Clarksville– This one is right across the street from the Peddler’s Mall. 706 E Lewis and Clark Pkwy, Clarksville, IN 47129
- 7) Outer Loop Peddler’s Mall 5718 Outer Loop, Louisville, KY 40219
Here’s a link to a Google Map where you can see them all plotted out. That was our strategy to make this trip as efficient as possible. Start at one and work your way to the next closest one and so on.
So this is our car on the way back home…
And this is after we unloaded…
Phew! I’ve got my work cut out for me! I’ve already started a few projects last night. Stay tuned for the after pics! Have you ever visited any of these thrift stores in Louisville? Got any new ones for me to add to the list?
